Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Pelvic floor physical therapy?

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized branch of physical therapy that focuses on assessing and treating issues related to the pelvic floor muscles and the surrounding structures.  This group of muscles and soft tissues located at the base of the pelvis plays a crucial role in supporting the reproductive organs, controls bowel and bladder function, and contributes to healthy sexual function.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is often recommended to individuals experiencing conditions like pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, postpartum issues, sexual dysfunction, or pelvic organ prolapse. It can be highly effective in improving pelvic health, and quality of life.

What can I expect during an orthopedic initial exam/women’s pelvic floor physical therapy initial exam?

On your first visit we will discuss the specific issues that brought you to physical therapy.  We will review your medical history and perform an in-depth musculoskeletal exam assessing posture, range of motion, flexibility, strength, mobility, and breathing pattern. We will discuss your findings and answer any questions you may have and develop a treatment plan that is individualized to address your goals.

During a pelvic floor initial exam, will also perform an external pelvic floor exam, and if warranted, with your consent, we will perform an internal exam to palpate the muscles that are responsible for your symptoms.

Do you accept insurance?

We are out-of-network and fee-for-service. Payment for all treatment is due at the time of service. While we cannot guarantee reimbursement by your insurance provider, we can provide you with an invoice (super bill) to be submitted to your insurance to apply toward your out-of- network deductible.

If you are a Medicare beneficiary, you can only seek private pay physical therapy treatment for services not covered by Medicare, such as prevention, wellness, and fitness. You cannot submit our superbills for reimbursement to either Medicare or secondary insurance.  If you have any questions, contact us!

Do I need a prescription for physical therapy from my doctor?

No. Our direct pay method allows our patients to seek care when they need it without going to their doctor for a prescription.

It is always in the best interest of the patient to keep all their practitioners informed. If you recently had a baby, or are pregnant, you should have clearance from your OBGYN for any internal exams.
